Glasmuseum Hentrich
Grünes Gewölbe in der Tonhalle GLASSpects
Artists from North Rhine-Westphalia
museum kunst palast has invited members of the glass artists’ association ‘Glaskünstlervereinigung NRW e.V.’ to engage with works from the Hentrich Glass Museum in their own way. Now 24 works by the 20 artists who took the offer on board are being presented in the Tonhalle. The sources of inspiration from the Hentrich Glass Museum encompass the entire spectrum of glass history from its beginnings in the second millennium B.C. until the end of the 20th century. This exhibition opens up new perspectives on numerous of the Hentrich Glass Museum’s works and invites visitors to continue their visit in the nearby glass museum.
Part of this exhibition concept is that the glass artists are not at their ‘model’s’ mercy, but place themselves and their work confidently in the context of the long history of glass art. Ten of the artists chose items of studio glass, especially Czech cast glass objects. The other ten selected works refer to other glass art traditions. There is little doubt that in the course of this project the artists gained enlightening insights, including surprising ones, and that they, above all, further increased their respect for this fascinating chapter of our history of art and technology, which has been ongoing for many millennia. The sources of inspiration for the individual works are presented in the form of pictures displayed in the glass cabinet and can be viewed in their original form in the glass museum which is located at a short distance of around 300 yards. the green vault | ![]() René Roubíček Glasobjekt, "Schreitender Kohlrabi" Nový Bor, 1961 Glasmuseum Hentrich (Gl 2001-73, Schenkung Steinberg Foundation) ![]() Katja Schetting Entwurfsskizze für ein Glasobjekt, "Schreitender Kohlrabi, halbwegs entmaterialisiert" Bonn, 2009 |
